Plankton analysis
We analyse zooplankton and phytoplankton in samples collected from coastal, estuarine and offshore locations worldwide.
Our experienced specialists identify and enumerate species and their lifecycle stage across the full spectrum of planktonic groups including ichthyoplankton (fish larvae and eggs) and juvenile stages of invertebrates.
All plankton analysis is conducted at our purpose-built laboratories. These are designed for highly efficient sample processing resulting in reduced lead times and costs for our clients.
Our labs are equipped with a range of high specification equipment including compound microscopes with phase-contrast capabilities enabling our plankton specialists to identify even the smallest larval stages.
Our taxonomists can process large volumes of samples while maintaining the highest quality standards. This is made possible by three invaluable resources:
- A substantial reference collection of unique planktonic taxa and larval stages developed from every project completed to date. This is continually updated and is an invaluable tool in ensuring our taxonomists work to the same standards;
- Our bespoke data management system ABACUS which provides highly efficient sample tracking;
- Access to an extensive collection of taxonomic keys.
