Plankton Surveys
Our plankton surveys often support benthic and fish surveys as part of wider monitoring and applied research programmes.
They typically range from collecting ichthyoplankton (fish larvae and eggs) samples around nuclear power station cooling water intakes to zooplankton sampling for research into the development cycles of important benthic species.
We use a variety of sampling techniques in our subtidal plankton surveys, including:
- Traditional horizontal and vertical plankton nets
- High speed Gulf VII samplers with multiple nets, flow meters and CTD units
- Water sampling
- Niskin bottles, pole samplers or Lund tubes
