Most of our images come from the UK’s European Marine Sites (EMS) network, Marine Conservation Zones (MCZs) and offshore development areas. But we also analyse images from our projects all over the world and provide this service for other organisations too.

Our work is conducted in line with best practice guidance. Typically, this involves:

  • the identification and quantification of subtidal epibenthic species across all phyla;
  • assigning biotopes in accordance with the EUNIS and MNCR biotope classification systems;
  • assessing protected habitats, including Annex I of the EU’s Habitat Directive, the UK Biodiversity Action Plan (UKBAP) priority habitats and Features of Conservation Importance (FOCI).

These services are used by a range of clients, including regulatory bodies, renewable energy developers and licenced oil and gas operators. We also conduct quality assurance through image analysis for other consultancies.

And as a testament to our expertise in this area, we are frequently asked to provide bespoke seabed image analysis and EUNIS biotope classification workshops for government agencies.
