Sediment analysis
Our dedicated sediment laboratory offers a suite of marine sediment analyses in line with national and international standards.
Our range of in-house analyses include:
- Particle Size Distribution (PSD) analysis by wet and dry sieving (also known as PSA)
- PSD analysis by laser diffraction
- Freeze drying of fine fractions
- Total Organic Carbon (TOC)
- Sediment chemistry including heavy and trace metals, hydrocarbons and organotins*
* organotin analysis via a partner laboratory
All analyses are underpinned by both our in-house quality assurance protocols and those of the National Marine Biological Quality Control (NMBAQC) scheme to ensure the efficient delivery of datasets to industry standards.
We offer high sample volume processing, multi-technique testing and fast turnaround times on all marine and estuarine sediment analyses. These are delivered with a detailed quality assurance report as standard.
Our laboratory has also been validated by the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) for conducting PSA for marine licence applications.
Both MMO validation and our participation in the NE Atlantic Marine Biological Analytical Quality Control (NMBAQC) scheme illustrate our position as a provider of industry-leading services.
