Ocean Ecology business structure

Having established a reputation for delivering quality and timely work we were soon called upon to provide services for some of the biggest marine infrastructure projects in the world. And we also drew the attention of like-minded investors.

In 2021, we became part of the Åkerblå Group, a Norwegian consultancy known for providing world-leading fish health, environmental and technical services to the aquaculture sector.

This strategic move enabled us to expand significantly to meet the growing demands for our existing services and develop new ones.

In 2022, Ocean Ecology acquired EcoSpan, the Plymouth-based environmental consultancy with skills and resources to complement our own. And in 2023, we acquired a major share in Tritonia Scientific Ltd, based in Dunbeg, near Oban in Scotland.

Tritonia offers advanced 3D Photogrammetry services for seabed mapping and unparalleled visualisation of the marine environment. This not only gives our clients’ a clearer understanding of the marine environment but also does so in a less intrusive way to minimise their impact on habitats.

In 2023, Åkerblå itself was acquired by DNV, leading experts in risk management and assurance with operations in more than 100 countries.
